Alison Finnieston

Alison Finnieston(BA (Hons) Ceramics. MA Fine Arts.) lives and works in Mid Wales and is very much engaged with the rural landscape which she inhabits. She is fascinated by the interaction between humankind, their artefacts and the environment and in how this relationship has marked the landscape. This has a particular relevance today where the landscape is treated as a commodity. Alison’s work explores the complex, intriguing and potentially destructive relationships between humankind and the landscapes they occupy.

Alison conceives her art practice as having two strands: A fine art practice and a ceramic art practice.

Drawing inspiration and imagery from her local landscape, Alison’s ceramic work is conceived as sculptural vessels which communicate with the observer and their surroundings.

Working in diverse media and responding to materials and process, Alison’s fine art work challenges our anthropocentric view of the world. She questions whether, in the future, the only landscapes we will experience will be those depicted in a gallery. She uses her art practice to postulate alternative means of relating to the environment.
