Lucy Burden

Lucy studied French and Drama at Manchester University and Acting at Central School of Speech and Drama. Before taking up painting full time she worked as an actor, as a community arts practitioner, as a teacher, and at BAFTA. Lucy moved back to Wales with her family in 2007 and lives near Llandrindod. After many years of dreaming about it Lucy finally took up painting after a car crash in 2018. And so, despite being born in 1969, she describes herself as an “emerging artist.”

Lucy paints stunning, atmospheric landscapes and seascapes which are full of movement and fluidity. She has exhibited widely throughout Wales. Solo exhibitions include at CELF in Llandrindod, at Found Gallery and Theatre Brycheiniog in Brecon, The Station Gallery in Erwood, Hay Castle in Hay on Wye, The Lost Arc in Rhayader, The Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells, Verzons in Ledbury, Llantarnam Grange in Cwmbran and at Chepstow Museum.

She has also been chosen to participate in many group exhibitions including at MOMA Machynlleth, Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw Pwllheli, Hay Castle, Herefordshire Art Week at the Hymns and Lucy has recently been longlisted for the Jacksons Art Prize.

Lucy is currently touring her exhibition “Flow / Llif”, inspired by the River Wye.  Lucy’s parents farm at Nannerth, alongside a beautiful stretch of the Wye between Llangurig and Rhayader and Lucy has explored and swum in the Wye since childhood. Lucy has walked the Wye from its source at Pumlumon to where it meets the Severn, near Chepstow. “Flow / Llif” celebrates this.
